Tony Krizan, Sierra Star columnist (”Mountain Secrets”), adventurer, and photographer will present “Minaret Mountain Adventure,” 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., Saturday, at the Yosemite Southgate Hotel & Suites, 40644 Highway 41.
Krizan brings to life, through a 100-photo presentation, his nine day, 47 mile lope starting at the Mammoth Trailhead at 7,495 feet, just above Clover Meadow. He then takes attendees over to the east side, around Minaret Lake. Krizan also explores the Minaret Mine established in 1878, at 9,810 feet.
He’ll continue back through the Minarets, skirting around the two tallest peaks - Mt. Ritter at 13,143 feet and Mt. Banner at 12,942 feet. Then from Lake Catherine dropping in elevation following the North Fork of the San Joaquin River to the Iceberg Pass Trailhead.
This free presentation reviles the hidden beauty and history concealed within our Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Guests will enjoy complimentary hors-d’oeuvres from Crab Cakes Restaurant. In conjunction with presentations, REI of Fresno will display various kinds of extreme hiking equipment in the Southgate Hotel lobby. The same type of equipment Krizan uses on his many hiking adventures.
After the presentation, autographed copies of Krizan two books on hiking the historic Yosemite Trails will be available. For more event information you can go to the Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau website at yosemitethisyear.com. - YSVB
