Yosemite makes it four for four in North Sequoia League golf

The Yosemite High School golf team traveled to Lemoore where Washington Union hosted the fourth North Sequoia League tournament on April 6. Halfway through the season, the Badgers find themselves comfortably on top of the league standings with four wins in a row.

YHS, led by junior Spencer Uzzell who shot even par, totaled 45 Stableford points, which easily bested Jake Sweeney (40 points) of Liberty and Jack Wright (36 points) from Chowchilla.

It was back-to-back tournaments where Spencer shot even par and a medal for the fourth time in as many tournaments. He has accumulated 158 MVP points to take a five point lead over Wright and a seven point lead over Sweeney.

Medalists are assigned points according to how many players participated in the tournament. For example, on Wednesday, 40 golfers played and Spencer won so he earned 40 points. Jake Sweeney was second and received 39 points. YHS sophomore Michael Stieler scored 33 points in Stableford, which meant he finished fourth and got 37 MVP points.

Badgers Ryan Lopez and Tanner Meeks scored 30 points each which translated into a tie for eleventh in the tournament. Currently Ryan Lopez is sixth in the individual league standings with 133 MVP points.

Stieler (131), Meeks (122), and Connor McMechan (115) complete the top ten players for league.

By scoring 165 points, YHS has shown a steady improvement in each of the first four tournaments. They started off the season with 137 points at home on River Creek Golf Course. They then scored 148 at Dragonfly and followed that up with 158 at Madera Municipal Golf Course.
