Former Yosemite High standout swimmers Phillip Kudela, left, and Eleanor Cummings, recently competed in the Western Athletic Conference swim and dive championship in Houston. Kudela, a freshman swimming for the University of North Dakota, qualified to swim in the 200 (1:44:73 - 28th place), 500 (4:45:15 - 24th place), and 1650 yard (16:12.75 - one mile) freestyle events. He had life-time best times in all three events, and placed 12th overall at the meet. His mile swim ranked him No. 103 in the nation for 18 year-olds, and he has joined the top 10 fastest swimmers in UND history for the mile. Cummings, a senior at California State University, Bakersfield, qualified to swim in three events at the meet - 50, 100, and 200 freestyle, recording her life-time best times in the 100 and 200.
