After leading by one at the end of the third quarter (31-30), the Central Section D-II No. 8 seed Yosemite High girls basketball team (17-14) fell to the No. 1 seed Redwood High (23-4) Friday night in Visalia, 51-42.
The Badger’s four seniors, Lynette Combs, Allie Stearns, Ashlee Harrell, and Jessica Fine, were the team’s leading scorers with 11, 9, 8, and 7 respectively.
Additional scoring came from freshman Grace Fries (3), senior Tracy Robesky (2), and one each from freshman Lily Griffigna and Hailey Rich.
The Lady Badgers advanced to the quarter finals game after beating No. 9 seed Selma 47-36 on Feb. 24.
Leading scorers for Redwood were Julianna Gutierrez with 14, Mikaya Marone 12, and 9 each from Samantha Navarro and Madison Kast.
Redwood will now host the No. 4 seed Tulare Western in the D-II semi finals March 1.
The winner of that game advances to the D-II Central Section championship game, 6 p.m., March 4, at Selland Arena in Fresno against the winner of a March 1 game between No. 2 Independence of Bakersfield, and No. 3 Lemoore.
On Friday, Tulare Western beat Bakersfield 43-33, Lemoore beat No. 6 Sierra 52-39, and Independence beat Monache 56-38.
Minarets advances to semi finals
The Minarets Mustangs (19-5), the No. 3 seed in D-V, will travel to play No. 2 Caruthers (22-7) at 7 p.m., March 2, in the semi finals, after beating No. 6 seed Fowler (16-12) 50-37 Friday night.
The Mustangs advanced to the quarter finals after beating No. 14 seed Laton (10-16) on Feb. 24.
Caruthers blew past Kennedy 60-28 Friday to advance.
Against Fowler, three Mustangs scored in double figures - Kristy Berry (12), Patricia Thomasian (10), and Kelea Kamalani (11), with Natalie Chamberlian adding 9, and Danielle Johnson 7.
In other D-V games, No. 1 Memorial beat No. 8 Chowchilla 58-26, and No. 4 Kern Valley edged No. 5 Bakersfield Christian 72-70.
Memorial will play Kern Valley in the March 1 semi finals with the winner facing either Caruthers or Minarets for the D-V championship at Selland Arena at 2 p.m., March 4.
In earlier games against Caruthers this season, Minarets lost twice to the West Sequoia League champions - 53-48 on Jan. 15, and 63-32 on Feb. 5.
