Mustangs feature three ‘bigs’

This year, Minarets High School Basketball Coach Paul Varner feels his team will be more seasoned after playing with only one senior last season.

The team finished last season at 4-16, 4-6 in West Sequoia League play. The Mustangs struggled to find consistency throughout the season but put together some good games in the second half of league play.

The team features 6-foot-5, 215 pound senior Mason Ellis, 6-foot-2, 200 pound Kaleb Fausone, and 6-foot-7, 240 pound Grant Denny.

All should make their presence felt in the paint and on the boards, something the team lacked last season. Rounding out the team is James Backman, Micah Mosier, Luke Pritchett, Jacob Frederick, Michael Rendon, Christian Conti, Greg Sanchez, Jared Varner, Caanin Fausone, and Dwayne Hale.

Seniors Jacob Walker and Holden Cordle will be forced to sit out their senior seasons due to football injuries.

The Minarets boys basketball team is playing in the 6th Annual Golden Bear Tip Off Classic Tournament Dec. 1-12. The Mustangs played the Sierra Pacific Golden Bears Dec. 1, and the Orosi Cardinals Dec. 2. Scores were not available at press time.

On Dec. 3, the Mustangs will play Riverdale at the Classic with tip-off scheduled for 8 p.m.. The Cowboys beat Minarets twice last season, 56-40 and 56-54.
