Soccer Clinic Sept. 12

The first annual Big Brothers Big Sisters of Madera’s Youth Soccer Clinic will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, at Yosemite High School. Registration is 8 - 9 a.m., with the free clinic for boys and girls, ages 5-16, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The event, which includes a free lunch and custom t-shirt, is sponsored by Rotary Club of Oakhurst Sierra and Bryant’s True Value Home Centers, Inc.

Businesses have the opportunity to sponsor children to participate, and receive advertisement in the event program.

Wawona golf tournament Sept. 19

Wawona Elementary School will hold its 12th Annual Celebrity Scramble Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Wawona Hotel Golf Course.

Special guests will include former Congressman George Radanovich, and Shelly Abajian from Senator Diane Feinstein’s office.

A continental breakfast and putting competition starts at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. shotgun start. A variety of contests will be held throughout the tournament.

After a day on the course, players will attend a 4 p.m. wine reception and barbecue awards dinner on the hotel lawn. Non-golfers are invited to attend the dinner - adults $20, children $10.

The dinner will culminate with a raffle and an auction featuring golf packages, overnight lodging packages, Badger Pass ski passes, golf gear, and area artwork.

The cost is $100 per golfer and includes greens fee, golf cart, breakfast, lunch and awards dinner.

All proceeds will help support the Yosemite-Wawona Elementary Charter School.

Golf tournament will benefit Boys & Girls Club Sept. 25

Women golfers in the Mountain Area are being asked to register for a Sept. 25 nine-hole tournament at Sierra Meadows Country Club to raise funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Oakhurst.

There will be several prize holes including closest to the pin, longest drive, straightest drive, and a Vegas hole.

“It’s a great opportunity for women in business, and other women in the area to get together, do something great for the community and have fun while doing it,” said event coordinator Stephenie Jewett of Moxie Salon.

The tournament will start at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Entry fees are $70 per player and include the round of golf, a cart, and an awards lunch.

Tournament sponsors are Ameriprise Financial, Sierra Tel, Moxie Salon, and Artifacts.

Rotary Golf Tournament Oct. 17

The 25th Annual Oakhurst Sierra Sunrise Rotary Club Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at Sierra Meadows Country Club.

This year’s event is being held in memory of Dale Miller.

The $100 per golfer registration includes 18 holes of golf, breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, lunch and dinner, a goodie bag, a ticket for putting contest, and two drink tickets. Dinner only cost is $20.

A number of contests will be held during the event including closest to the pin, and straightest drive.
