Colts having good summer season

Oakhurst’s 17-and-under summer baseball them, the Colts, is having a successful summer season with a current 10-3 record.

The Colts is a summer travel team made up of two seniors, four juniors, five sophomores, and two freshman from Yosemite High School.

Coached by Clyde Derickson, assisted by Mike Howell and Randy Matyshock, the team hosted its first five-team Colts Classic Tournament last week-end at Yosemite High School, winning two games, and losing two.

Frank Lemos was the winning pitcher in the Colts 5-2 win over the Grizzlies of Caruthers, and pitcher Evan Prater got the 10-3 win over the Panthers (Washington Union).

Austin Borgeno pitched a five inning shut-out, but took the loss in the Colts’ 5-4 defeat to Golden West (Madera Ranchos). In another tough loss, Jarrett Barone pitched a full game but got the loss as the Grizzlies beat the Colts 1-0. The Grizzlies won the tournament.

Leading hitters for the Colts during the tournament were first baseman Tyler Matyshock hitting .571 (including a double), outfielder/pitcher Barone hitting .500, and outfielder Luke Howell hitting .429 (one double).

The 14-and-under Colts team also played in their division tournament and went 1-3. The 14-and-under tournament was also won by the Grizzlies.
