McLeod, Alford, Hillerman all league

The Minarets Mustangs baseball team (13-12), placed three players, Justin McLeod, Hayden Alford, and Riley Hillerman on the West Sequoia All-League first team.

McLeod, the Mustangs lone senior, was also named to play for the county in the City-County All-Star Game that will be played at 6:30 p.m, June 20, at Chukchansi Park in Fresno. Last year he was used sparingly as the Mustangs utility player, but still managed to put up outstanding numbers hitting .704 with 19 hits in 27 at bats.

As a senior, McLeod led the Mustangs in hitting with a .562 batting average while leading the team in most offensive categories. He collected 41 hits with 25 RBIs, including five triples and five doubles, also leading the team in extra base hits. He set the bar high with an on base percentage of .616 and a slugging percentage of .767. Of the Juniors 87 plate appearances, he struck out only 3 times the entire season.

Along with McLeod, juniors Hayden Alford and Pitcher Riley Hillerman were also named to the 1st Team All-League. Hillerman was the "Ace" of the young Mustangs pitching staff, going 5-3 on the year with a 2.35 ERA while striking out 45 batters. The Mustangs rode the back of Hillerman as he guided them to the simi-final game in the Divison 5 playoffs, pitching 7 innings, surrendering no earned runs. The Mustangs eventually lost to Sierra Pacific in extra innings, but Hillermans performance was outstanding. When the Junior wasn't slinging it from the mound, he played short stop and 3rd base for the Mustangs. Hillerman hit .314 on the season with 22 hits in 70 at bats, 3rd on the team with 11 RBI's.

Alford was another reason for the Mustangs successful season following a team that graduated 12 seniors. The junior batted .418 on the season, including 3 doubles and 2 triples with a .500 On Base Percentage. In his 79 at bats Alford collected 33 hits, second only to McLoed. His 17 RBI's were 2nd in team standings. His 27 runs scored led the Mustangs in his 23 games played as he led all Mustangs with 20 stolen bases. Alford was this years utility man, he spent time at several infield positions as well as being the Mustangs 2nd man in the rotation. Carring a .934 fielding average with 51 put outs on the year. From the mound Alford held his own, going 4-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 16 appearances.He led the team in innings pitched and tied Hillerman with 45 K's.

The Mustangs placed two players on the All-League 2nd team, center fielder Christian Low and 1st baseman Brendon Bourdet. Four of the Mustangs starting sophmores recieved honorable mention. Catcher Connor Reardon, 3rd baseman Christian Conti, along with outfielders Drew Robertson and Jacob Cullen.
