Triathlon set for May 30

Excitement is building as athletes prepare to dive into Bass Lake at 7 a.m. Saturday, May 30 to start the 5th Annual Bass Lake Classic Triathlon.

After a competitive swim, participants will jump onto their bicycles for a ride around the scenic roads of Bass Lake. Following the bicycle ride, competitors lace up their running shoes to complete the competition as they run to the finish line.

Nearly 500 athletes took part in the competition in 2014 and race organizers anticipate another successful year.

The race includes the following options:

* Olympic Triathlon – 1500 meter swim, 40k bike, 10k run.

* Sprint Triathlon – 500m swim, 20k bike, 5k run.

* Bass Lake 5k Poker and Go Fish – Run/Walk for kids and adults.

This year’s Bass Lake 5k adds a fun element with the Poker & Go Fish – Best Hand contest. Runners and walkers in this event can pick up five cards along the race to get the best poker hand for ages 13 and up and best “Go Fish” hand for kids 12 and under. Best Hand prizes include lodging,and dining certificates from Bass Lake businesses. This event is a fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the Yosemite Gateway Association of Realtors’ High School Scholarship Fund and Yosemite High School athletic programs.

On Sunday, May 31, the 5th Annual South Shore Car & Boat Show will be held at Miller’s Landing Resort on the south shore near the dam.
