The Yosemite High D-IV boys tennis team got its season underway at home last week defeating two D-II teams from the Valley. The Badgers started with a 6-3 win over D-II Sunnyside High School on Feb. 24. Singles winners were the team’s No. 3 player Aaron Bausch, No. 4 Ron Luther, No. 5 Sam Williams, and No. 6 Sam DeVito. Chase Lassos and Bausch won at No. 2 doubles match, and Alex Williams and Ian Pincus won the No. 3 doubles match. On Feb. 26, the Badgers beat Madera High 6-3. Singles winners were YHS’s current No. 1 seed, Steven Standefer (pictured above), a transfer from Alaska, Bausch, Luther, and Williiams. According to Coach Aaron Eames, Standefer has provided depth to the senior laden team. DeVito, and Luther won at No. 1 doubles. Lassos and Bausch won the No. 2 doubles match. Bausch leads the team with a 4-0 record. “Stan Lawrence and I have been building this team the last couple years to get us in position for the schools first ever valley championship,” Eames said. “The sky is the limit for these guys.”
