After an 18 day layoff since its last game, the Yosemite High boys varsity soccer team returned to Raupp Field Jan. 3, losing to Roosevelt 4-0.
“I was really pleased with our team’s effort,” Coach Rick Lemberg said. “This is a young team who is still learning how to play soccer with each other. These guys had never been on the same team before as we have two freshman, and two sophomores playing on the varsity team.”
Lemberg said the team is playing better but needs to reduce mistakes on the field.
“Progress is being made,” Lemberg said. “ In the Roosevelt game, we played much better, but still made a few careless mistakes. We are working on cutting down on the mistakes. Hopefully our patience and hard work will develop into a team that is ready for league play which begins next week.”
The JV team lost 1-0 to Roosevelt on a goal that came in the last five minutes of the game, and the Badger frosh/soph team were beaten 5-0.
The Badgers host the Minarets Mustangs Thursday, Jan. 15. The JV teams plays at 3:30 p.m., followed by the 5 p.m. varsity game. .
The Badgers open league play at home against Chowchilla on Jan. 13. The girls team will be home against Chowchilla on Jan. 14.
