More than 350 Mountain Area elementary school athletes, representing nine schools, participated in a cross country meet Nov. 20 at the Ahwahnee Hills Regional Park.
Sponsored by Mountain Home School, eight different races, between a half mile and a mile and-a-half, were held for students from kindergarten thorough eight grade. The students were divided by boys and girls, in four divisions by grades - Kindergarten and first, second through fourth, fifth and sixth, and seventh and eighth.
The nine schools participating in the event were Rivergold, Coarsegold, Oak Creek Intermediate, North Fork, Wasuma, Spring Valley, Mountain Home School, Oakhurst, and Raymond.
Amanda Patterson, a teacher at Mountain Home School Charter, and Chris Bedolla, from Rivergold, organized the event, the first hosted by Mountain Home School.
The event was one of the first large events held at the recently open park.
“The weather was great, and all the students seemed to enjoy all the races,” Patterson said. “The site was perfect and many parents commented on how beautiful the park is.”
Overall boys and girls division team scores had the same results - Rivergold first, Coarsegold second, and OCI third.
Oakhurst Charter School provided first through sixth place ribbon in each race, and all runners will receive a participation ribbon. As overall meet winners, trophies were presented to the Rivergold boys and girls teams.
