Lady Badgers win D-II golf championship

There was something different about Yosemite High School girls golf coach Rusty Oetinger when he recently walked in the Sierra Star office. After a closer look — it was the hat — the brand-new CIF Central Section D-II Championship hat. A hat no YHS coach or girl golfer has ever worn in the 39-year history of the school.

The team won the section title Oct. 27 at the Madera Municipal Golf Course with a team score of 480. Yosemite’s Jessica Rudd, Kelsi Stieler, and Claire Oetinger placed one, two, three to lead the Badgers to the D-II central section tournament, with scores of 86, 89, and 95 respectfully.

Second place at the D-II championships went to Bakersfield Christian with a team score of 514, and third went to Lemoore with a team score of 535.

Rudd, Stieler, and Oetinger now advance to the Nov. 4 CIF Individual Valley Championship in Taft.

Rudd was recently named the MVP of the North Sequoia League after the team won the league title for the 10th consecutive year on Oct. 8.
