Yosemite High junior Sayda Taylor is headed to her second career state track and field meet – in her second event.
Taylor jumped 5 feet 4 inches at the CIF Central Section Masters meet held at Buchanan High on Saturday, May 19 for fourth place to qualify for the state meet June 1-2, also at Buchanan.
Taylor competed at the state meet in her freshman season in 2016 in the 200 meters.
Taylor broke the YHS high jump record this season jumping 5-5¼. Taylor also owns the all-time YHS record in the 100 meters (12.54 seconds) and 200 (25.25), both from her freshman season. Taylor set the 200 time at the state meet in 2016.
Taylor has been a key contributor to the YHS girls program which has won or shared four straight North Sequoia League titles.
“Sayda is a naturally talented and fierce competitor,” said first-year head coach Cari Rumohr. “Sayda is a three-sport athlete (volleyball, soccer, and track) as well as a scholar athlete. She is a team leader and works hard every day. We are excited about her participation at State.”
