The Minarets High Mustangs baseball team is in the midst of an outstanding season – 18-5 overall heading into the final week of the regular season including games scheduled May 10 at Immanuel and May 11 at home against Parlier, Senior Day.
The pitching staff is led by senior Matt Painter (8-2, 2.08 ERA) and junior Aaron Hall (7-1, 3.96 ERA). The staff includes senior Connor Heidebrecht, junior Jayden Pierce, junior Luke Batty and junior Chris Bowe.
The Mustangs feature a .319 team batting average. Pierce leads the team at .423. Hall and senior E.G. Walden were at .400 and Painter and sophomore T.J. Garner were at .390.
Minarets has faced tough competition, beating the Yosemite Badgers 8-3, Mariposa Grizzlies 4-3, Sierra Chieftains 3-2 and Liberty Hawks 6-3. Most recently, the Mustangs defeated Central Section Division 4 team (and West Sequoia League rival) Fowler 6-3 on May 1.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Minarets was tied for second place in the WSL and seeded No. 2 in Division 5 behind only Arvin.
“I am just very proud of this team,” Coach Jesse Darrah said. “They compete every game to win, and are a tight-knit group who play with enthusiasm and passion. This team is such a thrill to coach and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.”
