The Yosemite High School wrestling team brought home the first place trophy from the 2018 Sanger High School JV Boys Wrestling Tournament held Jan. 13, as the Badger’s 15 member team outscored the other 19 teams who participated.
In addition, seven Badgers fought their way to the medal rounds: Diego Combs (138 lbs.), Nicolas Guynn (145), and Justin Micallef (160) earned first place medals.
Kyler Schaefer (132) placed second in his weight class, Ernie Jimenez (152), Joseph Sandover (182), and Rocky Lapham (190) placed third.
The impressive win came after a recent competitive but heartbreaking league opening three-way dual match at Liberty High School, with the Badgers losing to Liberty by just 1 point and to Chowchilla by 4 points.
The Badgers travel to Easton to wrestle Washington Union and Kerman on Jan. 18, and will be at home on Thursday, Feb. 1, hosting Sierra.
