The one-day Mountain Area elementary school girls basketball tournament was recently held at Yosemite High School and Oak Creek Intermediate won the tournament for the fifth consecutive year.

OCI’s first game was played against Spring Valley and they won the game 40-20.

OCI’s beat Coarsegold Elementary, 36-18, in the semifinal game with Brittney Allen scoring 11 and Jenna Kurz scoring 10. Allen and Kurz were OCI’s top scores over the entire day.

OCI and Rivergold Elementary played for the tournament championship with OCI winning 28-8. Rivergold finished the tournament in second place and Coarsegold placed third.

“Our players did an outstanding job and worked very well as a team,” said OCI Coach Erik Peterson.

OCI’s tournament team included eighth graders Allen, Kurz, Lauren Bernardi, Kayla Peterson, Hannah Huntington, and seventh graders Holly Hurtado, Serafina Montanez, Kylie Trincia, and Margaret Weigel. Coach Peterson was very helpful with all the girls this year and made this a great season.

Members of the YHS varsity girls basketball team coordinated the tournament.
