Days ago the news came out that Karen Pence, wife of the vice president, had decided to return to her role as an art teacher at a Catholic school. She taught there prior to the election of 2016 and seemed to have success with her students. The press derided her career decision with the headline that the second lady of the United States had gone to work for an anti-gay organization. Really? The Roman Catholic Church is now called a hate group and people question that there is an assault on the Christian faith in America.

If Karen Pence is attacked for her taking a job with Immanuel School then I don’t understand why the national media group that attacked her hasn’t gone after Nancy Pelosi for supporting that alleged hate group as a member of the Roman Catholic Church.

There are a number of reasons for us to be concerned about the practice of Identity Politics. If Karen Pence is attacked for wanting to teach students at a private Christian school a subject in which she has proven talents we are all in jeopardy. Since when does following the teachings of the Catholic Church and Judeo-Christian beliefs in general get branded as hate? The Bible describes certain acts in ways that are absolute. The Biblical definition of marriage is between a man and a woman. It doesn’t leave any wiggle room in its definition. Man and a woman. Karen Pence isn’t an elected official and she simply wants to be an art teacher. She should be left alone. The mainstream media showed bias with this story.

Buzzfeed announced that Michael Cohen, the president’s former lawyer, had stated that Trump had ordered Cohen to do certain illegal acts. So egregious was this false story that the Mueller Committee issued a statement telling the nation that the story wasn’t accurate. ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN ran with the story for several minutes on air without any validation of it being accurate. It went against the president so they went with it. Journalists have to check the information. The old adage for journalists tells one that, “When your mother tells you she loves you, verify it with two sources.”

Columnists such as Peter Cavanaugh and I are hired to express opinions and we have an obligation to verify to the best of our abilities the facts that we present. Our columns are printed in the Opinion section of this paper for a reason. Journalists are to present the story and the facts but to write in such a manner that their politics can’t be determined by the reader. Clearly many in the mainstream press are using the news story to push a political agenda.

I don’t recall the mainstream press publishing the photo of Barack Obama and Louis Farrakhan prior to the Obama elections. I don’t recall hearing outrage from the press about nutty Maxine Waters hugging Farrakhan. The people of the leadership of a Woman’s Rights March work with Farrakhan and don’t denounce his anti-Semitism. Farrakhan made reference to being called another Hitler and he said he did not mind because Hitler was a great man according to Farrakhan. They had a political agenda to push.

We are beginning to see what Progressives admire and what they don’t like. That an art teacher is hired at a Catholic school is cause for ridicule and venomous reporting. All this anger from the Left because the Roman Catholic Church is supportive of the Biblical definition of marriage and the Church is against the killing of innocent babies.

Karen Pence has rights.
