This coming Wednesday, June 6, marks the 74th anniversary of the greatest invasion the world has ever or will ever see again. Ten thousand Allied troops did not live through the battles that took place at Normandy. Thousands of Nazis did their best to keep our heroes off the beaches but they lost that battle which allowed the Allies to gain the foothold necessary to liberate Europe. The war in Europe would be over the following April of 1945.
I remind everyone that because of those efforts and the others who defeated the Nazis and Fascists we don’t speak German and we don’t goosestep. We get to vote and we get to enjoy being free. 27,028 days since D-Day and if we had said thank you every second of those days it still wouldn’t be enough to honor their sacrifice. God bless them all!
On June 5 we get to vote. If the previous paragraph doesn’t inspire you to get to the polling places, I don’t understand. People died so that you get to vote.
Just a couple of recommendations for you to consider. I know both Tom Wheeler and Marc Sobel who are running for Madera County supervisor and both are honest men who would serve us well. I will be voting for Tom Wheeler as he has shown me that he can get the job done and I think he deserves one more term. District Attorney David Linn has done a good job going after the bad guys but I think he shot himself in the foot with his actions and words so I must look to somebody else to support for DA who I hope will be a tough prosecutor for us. I am supporting Paul Hornick for that job. I recommend Marshall Tuck for state schools superintendent. In the governor’s race I am recommending a vote for John Cox. The others don’t impress me and I hope that the Democrat scheme to eliminate Republicans from the general election in November backfires. The scheme is to have the top two vote-getters be placed on the ballot. Last general election we only could choose between two liberal Democrats. Cole Harris has my vote for lieutenant governor and I will be voting for Mark Meuser for secretary of state.
The Yosemite Union High School District spent more dollars to buy out the contract of the superintendent whom they just hired. A $60,000 payoff on top of getting paid since she was placed on “administrative leave” many months ago. That $60,000 would have covered a teacher’s annual salary for the district which means one less highly qualified teacher in a classroom for our kids. A school board’s No. 1 job is the hiring of a superintendent. The board members showed they were as inept at hiring a superintendent as they have been in managing the school district finances. Don’t blame interim Mike Berg for these decisions; the blame rests entirely on the existing school board. They should resign from the board ASAP or else we recall them.
Now we are hearing that the Obama administration either directed or allowed illegal governmental spying on a political party campaign. Lois Lerner and the IRS were bad enough but this erodes many longheld beliefs in our election system. Obama needs to admit his role or throw the scoundrels to the wolves. How pitiful that this occurred but the idea that during the very week we honor the Heroes of Normandy we discover that many politicians and federal agents abused the power entrusted to them.
The 10,000 did not die to protect the “Deep State.”
