Jayne Pressly died Aug. 5, 2016 at the age of 83. She was born July 20, 1933 in Chowchilla, and was raised in Bass Lake.
A Sierra High School graduate, she attended Colorado Women’s College majoring in journalism. She then went on to become a third generation owner/publisher/editor of The Chowchilla News, later returning to Fresno State to obtain her teaching credential, and working as a career education teacher at Chowchilla High School.
Mrs. Pressly was a Paul Harris Fellow through Chowchilla Rotary Club, a Soroptimist Club member, and was active in her church, Our Lady of the Sierra Catholic Church in Oakhurst.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She was very involved with the Madera County foster care system, hosting 16 foster children, as well as a foreign exchange student from Ghana, West Africa.
Mrs. Pressly is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bruce of Coarsegold; daughter Pat Palmer and husband Steve of Tracy; sons Dr. Yaw Ansu and wife Joan of Bethesda, Maryland, and Matt of Coarsegold; sister Mimi Philbrook of Palisades, Colorado; three grandchildren; cousins, many nephews, nieces, and great grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m., Aug. 27, at St. Dominic Savio Catholic Church in Bass Lake (40077 Road 222), with a reception following at Our Lady of the Sierra Catholic Church in Oakhurst.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made in her name to the M.D. Anderson Hospital of Houston, Texas, or favorite charity of choice.
