Lester (Les) Hammer

Lester (Les) Hammer died June 15, 2015 at the age of 82. He was born Dec. 14, 1932 in Purcell, Okla., to Leslie and Stella Mae (Bebout) Hammer.

At 18 years of age, Mr. Hammer joined the Navy, serving on the USS Bairoko. His active duty included two Korea tours, and participation in the H-bomb test on Bikini Island. In 1955, he received an Honorable Discharge, and began studying drafting at Glendale College.

Mr. Hammer worked at Bendix, and retired from Litton Industries, where he worked for 25 years as a design engineer. Following his retirement, the family relocated to Coarsegold in 1988. His hobbies included golf.

Mr. Hammer is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne; children, Tom and wife, Lori, of Virginia; Cynthia Romero of Oakhurst; and Becky Horen and husband, David, of Coarsegold; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held at the Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst.
