Two arrested after more than 12,000 marijuana plants seized in Oakhurst

More than 12,000 marijuana plants were seized and eradicated by the Madera County Sheriff’s Office on Hidden Falls Way in Oakhurst on Tuesday, with two men arrested and booked into Madera County Jail, Commander Bill Ward said in a release Thursday.

Artemio Gonzalez-Hera, 34 of San Jose, and Jose Zaragoza Plancarte, 33 of Carnation, Washington, were arrested and booked on charges of illegal cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Ward said.

When deputies arrived at the house on Hidden Falls Way with a search warrant, they encountered the two men. One allegedly ran after dropping his pellet rifle, while the other allegedly dropped a 9mm handgun and also attempted to flee. Both were located.

The owners of the property were not involved in the illegal growing operation, Ward said, and were very cooperative with the investigation.
