Small explosion in Oakhurst

On Monday night at about 11 p.m. deputies, along with CHP, Cal-Fire, and Sierra Ambulance were dispatched to the Purple Cow Mall in Oakhurst regarding reports of an explosion that had injured an adult male. Deputies discovered the man had serious injuries to one of his hands and found evidence that a small propane tank had exploded.

The man, whose name was not released, was transported to a hospital in Fresno for treatment of his injuries. The man told deputies that he had been using a five gallon propane tank for fuel to melt some metal when the explosion occurred. There was no evidence of foul play and the incident was handled as an accidental injury.
