Fresno man arrested for alleged weapons possession near Oakhurst

A routine traffic stop on Highway 41 near Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino ended with a felony arrest of a Fresno man for alleged weapons possession early Tuesday morning.

At about 3:24 a.m., Madera County Sheriff's Sgt. Tallmon stopped Juan Cassio, 26, for an partially obstructed license plate on his red sedan, according to a sheriff's news release.

Tallmon soon discovered that Cassio is on active probation in Fresno County, and was subject to search and gang terms. Tallmon detained Cassio and searched the vehicle.

The search unveiled an imitation handgun, two "billy club" type weapons, burglary tools and methamphetamine paraphernalia.

Cassio was arrested and taken into custody. Cassio was subsequently booked on suspicion of felony possession of a leaded cane, as well as misdemeanor possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance and driving with a suspended license.
