Staff from Hillview Water Company are frantically at work to repair a significant break in the company’s water lines that opened up early Friday in the Victoria Lane area of Oakhurst.
Ralph Fairfield, compliance and resource officer for HWC, said as much as 250,000 gallons of water had been lost due to the break in a 10-inch-wide main pipe, first reported around 4 a.m.
“Turns out we have a 20-foot split in the pipe,” Fairfield said. “So we’re asking our customers to conserve water for the next 24 hours so our tanks can recover capacity.”
Fairfield said the company hopes to restore the line by 1 p.m. Friday. He estimated around 500 residents and some businesses were affected by low pressure in the Oakhurst area as a result.
The cause of the break was unknown, Fairfield said.
“We’ve had no sort of breaks this large in a while,” Fairfield said.
