A 70-year-old woman died last week when her car crashed into a dirt embankment south of Coarsegold, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The Madera County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Cindi Hayes of Coarsegold.
Investigators said the crash happened at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18.
The driver was heading south on Highway 41 at around 55 mph when her vehicle left the roadway just north of Coyote Hollow Lane. The car, described as a 1999 Ford, slammed into a dirt embankment and ejected the driver, according to the CHP.
No other vehicles were involved. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected.
The cause of the crash remained unclear this week.
