Bass Lake is hosting its annual Fishing Derby on May 4 and 5, allowing fishermen the opportunity to take home a portion of its $55,000 purse.

The event, sponsored by the Bass Lake Chamber of Commerce, kicks off the summer season at the lake.

“This is a really fun event that is a great way to start the busy season here at Bass Lake,” said Michelle Miller, manager of Miller’s Landing Resort and member of the Chamber of Commerce. “It brings in a lot of families..”

More than 1,000 tagged rainbow trout will be released into the lake prior to the derby, each worth varying amounts. There will be 847 fish worth $20, 150 worth $100, one fish worth $5000, and two “grand prize” fish worth $10,000 each.

Registration is priced at $25 for entrants aged 16 and older, $15 for children 16 and younger and $10 for each additional child after that.
