A portion of Highway 49 in Mariposa County will be closed for 12 days between late April and early May, Caltrans announced.

The north and southbound lanes of the highway between Bear Valley Road and Highway 132 in Coulterville will be closed beginning 7 a.m. Monday, April 29 through 7 p.m. Friday, May 10. The closure will permit Access Limited Construction, a construction company based in Oceano, to repair or replace three culverts and rebuild the road over them.

Motorists commuting through the area can expect an additional hour of travel time due to the closure.

“This work is part of a project repairing roadside slopes that experienced damage and sliding during winter storms and fixing culverts that are worn and/or damaged due to inclement weather,” read the news release.

Access Limited Construction will head the $5 million project.

According to Caltrans, the closure schedule is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and materials, and other issues.
