Oakhurst Democrats April Meeting

The next Oakhurst Democratic Club meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 6 at the Oakhurst Grill, 40530 Highway 41.

Kevin Hall, host of Climate Politics on KFCF 88.1 FM in Fresno, is the featured speaker and his presentation is titled “The Politics of Climate Change.” The discussion will focus on California’s cap-and-trade program and the officials of the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District.

The program begins at 9:15 a.m., but attendees are welcomed to come early and enjoy a breakfast buffet starting at 8:30 a.m. for $8.

Half Dome permits available this week

Yosemite National Park announced that the 2019 preseason lottery for Half Dome permits, which typically opens on March 1, will be delayed until Wednesday, March 13 due to a transition to a new contracted provider.

The lottery will open 7 a.m.

All hikers are required to have permits to ascend the subdome steps and the Half Dome cables seven days a week when the cables are up. Park rangers install the Half Dome cables each spring and take them down each fall, based on weather and trail conditions. The cables are typically up from late May to early October.

During the preseason lottery, 225 permits are available for each day that the cables are up.

Multiple Sclerosis Bike-a-thon

The Mariposa County 4-H Citizenship project is hosting its eighth annual Multiple Sclerosis Bike-a-Thon on Sunday, April 28 at Hornitos Park, 2878-2878A Bear Valley Rd., in Hornitos, California.

Although the event is called a “bike-a-thon,” runners and walkers are also welcomed to participate in the course. Registration opens up at 9 a.m. on the day of the event.

The walking, running and biking will begin at 10 a.m. and will be followed by a barbecue and an awards ceremony.

Oakhurst Community Concert Band Spring concert

The Oakhurst Community Concert Band will be performing their spring concert on Sunday, April 7 at the Mountain Christian Center, 40299 Highway 49, in Oakhurst.

“A Concert for Spring” begins at 3 p.m. and will feature a special guest appearance from the cast of the Golden Chain Theater’s “Oliver.”

Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis Bingo

The Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis are hosting a bingo night Saturday, March 16 at the Oakhurst Community Center, 39800 Fresno Flats Road.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the bingo begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission costs $25 and includes dinner and bingo cards.

The dinner is made up of bangers, cole slaw, baked beans, chips and dessert.
