Start working on that shooting form, mountain area basketball players. The Knights of Columbus 2019 Free Throw and 3-Point Championship is scheduled for Jan. 19.

Boys and girls ages 9 through 14 can participate in the free throw shooting contest, while the three-point contest is reserved for those ages 15 through 18.

The competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Yosemite High School gym.

Contestants will only compete against others of the same age.

In the free throw contests, contestants will shoot 15 consecutive free throws from the foul line to decide the winner.

Three-point contest participants will have two minutes to take 15 shots from five different positions around the three-point arc.

Winners will progress through local, district, and state competitions. The state finals will be held in Fresno.

The Oakhurst Area Knights of Columbus Council has produced three state free throw champions from the Mountain Area - Alyssa Sayre (2002), Katie Menton (2003) and Samuel Burnheimer (2011).

All contestants are required to provide proof of age and written parental consent.

For entry forms or additional information, contact the competition’s coordinator Tony Tucket at 559-760-7406.
