EMSPCA Spay-Ghetti Dinner

The Eastern Madera County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is hosting a Spay-Ghetti Dinner fundraiser Nov. 30 at Oakhurst Lutheran Church, 39255 Black Rd.

The dinner is scheduled to run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will include spaghetti and meatballs, garlic bread, a no-host bar, a dessert dish and coffee. Gluten-free and takeout options are available.

Tickets will be sold at the door and are priced at $10 for adults and $7 for children under the age of 12.

All proceeds from the dinner will benefit EMCSPCA.

Soroptimist Chili Cook-Off

The Soroptimist International of the Sierras is hosting its Gold Country Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Oakhurst Community Center, 39800 Fresno Flats Rd.

Tickets are $20 and include one drink ticket, one raffle ticket, chili samples, cornbread and dessert. Meal tickets for children 10 years old and under are $5 and include a hot dog, a drink and chips.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.chilicookoff2018.eventbrite.com or from any Soroptimist member.

The fundraiser runs from 5-9 p.m. and features live music, courtesy of Slide Creek Band.

Forum on self-defense

November’s Mountain Area Conservative Forum will focus on self-defense.

The forum is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Oakhurst Grill, 40530 Highway 41, and will feature two speakers.

Fresno Police Detective Sammy Ashworth and Damsel in Defense’s Melissa Fernandez will be on hand to educate attendees on self-defense techniques.

“Change the statistics by gaining practical knowledge and learning how to protect you and your family. Don’t go defenseless, get equipped and confident that you will not be a victim!” read the Mountain Area Conservative Forum news release.
