Patriot Day

SierraTel is hosting its annual Patriot Day event Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Mountain Christian Center Auditorium, 40299 Highway 49 in Oakhurst.

The event is organized to recognize and appreciate the work of all veterans, active-duty military and first-responders, as well as honor the memory of those who were killed in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorists attacks.

Rocky Deal, district director for Rep. Tom McClintock, is the keynote speaker for the event. He spent 28 years in the U.S. military and rose as high as chief of staff to the commander of Naval Air Forces Pacific.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will include a special flag-raising ceremony and pledge of allegiance, patriotic live music, and military taps.

Miller’s Landing Resort Triathalon

Registration for the sixth annual Bass Lake MY*Tri youth triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 8 is still open.

The event will be hosted by Miller’s Landing Resort in Bass Lake.

The triathlon is reserved for people between the ages of 5 and 17 and there are three separate divisions that participants can choose from.

The DASH division includes a 50-yard swim, two-mile bike ride and half-mile run; the SPRINT division includes a 100-yard swim, four-mile bike ride and one-mile run; and the ACE division has a 200-yard swim, eight-mile bike ride and two-mile run.

The “early bird” registration fee for all three divisions is $27.37, with discounts available for siblings. The cost of registration will increase to $35 on Sept. 7.

Great Sierra River Clean Up

The Oakhurst River Parkway will be helping clean up the Fresno River, Oak Creek and China Creek in this year’s Great Sierra River Clean Up on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Anyone interested in assisting the cleaning efforts is invited to meet with the group at 9 a.m. on the day of the event at the Oakhurst Library. Tools, water and snacks will be provided.
