Oakhurst Branch Library has a two-part workshop on self-publishing planned in August. It starts Saturday, Aug. 11, with local author Lauren Ball, president and creative director of Ball Point Creative Design, Inc. where he consults with clients to ensure the design of their book “captures the tone and vision” they had in mind.
The library says Ball’s workshop will focus on helping authors know the milestones to getting their books published. His presentation “Is Your Book Ready to Publish?” is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Library’s Community Room at 49044 Civic Circle Dr.
Part 2 of the workshop on Saturday, Aug. 25, will be presented by Jennifer Moss, another local author and web developer. It is called “Your Book is Published. Now What?”
The library says Ball’s experience as an author, book designer and illustrator bridges both the writing and production side of the publishing process.
Ball, who moved to Coarsegold from Utah in 2014 “for milder winters and beautiful scenery,” he told the library, has authored “Where’s the One About the Bobcat?” an index and summaries of stories by author Patrick F. McManus to help his millions of fans find their favorite stories in more than 15 books of his collected stories. Ball also maintains a website that promotes the book index.
McManus, who died in April of this year at 84, was an American humor writer who primarily wrote about the outdoors.
As a graphic designer, Ball has many years of experience in book design, illustration and publishing for both self-published authors and indie publishers.
The free workshop is sponsored by the Friends of the Oakhurst Branch Library.
