Registration for Coarsegold kindergarten

Coarsegold Elementary School’s annual Kindergarten Roundup is Wednesday, May 30, by appointment from 1:40-4 p.m. at the school.

The event for parents of transitional kindergarten- and kindergarten-age children (5 years old by Dec. 1, 2018 for the 2018-19 school year) is a chance to meet the kindergarten teachers, check out the classrooms and turn in completed paperwork. Also, Kinder Cub T-shirts will be for sale.

Registration packets are available in the school office. Parents who already have a packet are asked to call Laurie in the office at 559-683-4842 ext. 2100 to set up an appointment for May 30.

Head Start application deadline Friday

The Madera/Mariposa Regional Head Start preschool program is accepting applications for the 2018-2019 school year through Friday, May 25, when it closes for the summer.

Mountain Head Start in North Fork offers a full-day program of six hours. Oakhurst Head Start continues with a 3.5-hour afternoon program.

Head Start provides a free, comprehensive preschool program designed to foster healthy development for income eligible children and families. The program focuses on increasing the social competence of young children ages 3-4 in Madera and Mariposa counties.

Bass Lake Live starts Friday

The Bass Lake Live summer concert series at the Pines Resort on selected Fridays in the summer starts Friday, May 25 with live music by AC Myles.

South Gate celebrates 5th anniversary

South Gate Brewing Co. in Oakhurst is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a lot party Saturday, May 26 from 11:30 a.m. to sundown. Musical guest Lance Canales performs at 2 p.m.

Southgate is at 40233 Enterprise Drive, just north of the Highway 41/49 intersection.

Memorial Day service at Oakhill

A Memorial Day service is planned at 9 a.m. Monday, May 28 at the Little Church on the Hill in Oakhill Cemetery. Fr. Gordon Kamai of Christ Church-Anglican will officiate and the VFW presentation of colors and taps will follow the service at 10 a.m.

Motorcycle event June 2

The Bike Blessing and Benefit Run for Helping Hands is Saturday, June 2.

It starts with a free breakfast at 9 a.m. at Mountain Christian Center, 40299 Highway 49 in Oakhurst. The blessing of the bikes is at 10 a.m., and the run begins at 10:30 with lunch, raffle, silent auction and live music following at Bass Lake.

There’s a $20 registration fee for the run and lunch costs $10 with all proceeds going to Helping Hands Center.

Senior Singles meet June 14 at Ducey’s

The next event of the Senior Singles Dining Club is a June 14 dinner at Ducey’s on the Lake, 39255 Marina Drive, Bass Lake.

Senior Singles meets at 5 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at a different Mountain Area restaurant.

Coarsegold youth place in area meet

Logan Beaumont of Coarsegold Elementary placed fourth in the discus and the boys 1,600-meter relay team of AJ Ruiz, Colton Azevedo, Robby Gresham and Noah Graffigna placed fifth at the Valley Youth Championship Track Meet on May 5 at Buchanan High School.
