At the Dec. 5 State Center Community College District (SCCCD) Board meeting, Bobby Kahn was selected by a unanimous vote of the trustees as the new president of the board.
Kahn, who has served as the executive director of the Madera County Economic Development Commission for 16 years, was elected as trustee for Area 1 in 2014 and lives in Madera.
“It is a true honor to be selected by my peers to lead the SCCCD board and I look forward to assisting the board in managing all of the exciting issues that the district will be addressing over the next year,” Kahn said. “One of the top priorities will be implementing the first phase of projects that are part of the Measure C Bond voters overwhelmingly passed in June 2016. I think all of the communities in the SCCCD boundaries will see some type of construction activity thanks to the bond, including Oakhurst.”
Other leadership positions that were filled at the meeting were: Deborah Ikeda, Trustee Area 6, was elected vice president and Richard Caglia, Trustee Area 7, was elected as secretary.
SCCCD serves about 1.7 million people and 22 unified and high school districts in more than 5,743 square miles of urban and rural territory, including most of Fresno and Madera counties and portions of Kings and Tulare counties.
The district oversees three fully accredited colleges, Fresno City College, Reedley College and Clovis Community College, along with the Madera Community College Center and the Oakhurst Community College Center, and offers occupational and technical training at its Career and Technology Center and the Training Institute. Total district enrollment is more than 50,000 students.
