On Dec. 22 Madera County Sheriff’s deputies teamed up with Agriland Farming Company Inc. to achieve 50 Acts of Random Kindness county-wide.
Entitled, Operation: Random Kindness, deputies handed out 50 $100 bills to unsuspecting civilians that seemed like they could use some Christmas luck.
In Oakhurst, Deputy Paul Chetwood, one of two deputies armed with $100 Christmas cards, found three people he thought could use some cheer.
Wayne Brazil was arriving to the Oakhurst Healthcare & Wellness Centre, a care home for elderly medical patients, to visit his wife who was suffering from issues due to diabetes. Because of her medical condition they were planning on celebrating Christmas in the care center. Chetwood intercepted Brazil as he got out of his car. After hearing Brazil’s story Chetwood was moved to share some joy.
Brazil opened the card and choked up a bit. When Chetwood asked him what he was going to do with the money, Brazil answered with a big smile - “I’m going to spend it however my wife tells me to.”
Back in his patrol vehicle and after delivering the last Christmas card Chetwood sighed, “I wish we could do this every single day.”
