Vision Academy of the Arts offers three summer camps

Three camps with three themes will be held for three weeks at Oakhurst Elementary School. Camps are open to students going into second to eighth grade in the fall. Each theme is one week long, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily, culminating in a show each Friday at 5:15 p.m. for parents and friends. The cost for the full course is $150; half day mornings or afternoons, $80.

The cost includes professional instruction in art (Rita Adams), musical theater (Jackie Byers), band (Shirley Lay), guitar (Kirk Moulin), dance (Elseana Skowronski), and writing (Monika Moulin). Students will need to bring a sack lunch. Two snacks are provided for 50 cents, with additional snacks available for 25 cents each. Payment plans and partial scholarships are available.

* June 13-17, “River Child,” by John Jacobson and Rollo Dillworth. Pirates,” by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson. Join the river children on an exciting exploration of the great waterways of the world, and discover the integral roles these rivers play in our lives. Whether used for fishing, food, irrigation, or transportation, every river child knows that water is life.

* June 20-24, “Harmony High,” by John Jacobson and Mac Huff. At this school, everyone sings and everything’s cool. It’s the first day of school and new students Michael, Michele and Junior are about to discover what the singing is all about. The principal is quite cheery and loves to vocalize. Everyone’s a winner in Jim the Gym teacher’s gym and those classical cooks of the cafeteria are always ready to dine. Even the students in detention are singing ... the blues and the whacky science class is really rockin’.

* June 27-July 1, “On the Radio,” by John Jacobson and Tom Anderson. Meet disc jockey Marvelous Mike and sidekick Jivin’ Judy as they play the oldies, the goodies, and all the songs kids have loved throughout the years. From the Great Depression and WWII to Elvis, the Beatles, and Disco, the radio is where America hears the songs that become the soundtracks of their lives.
