Men and women who died while serving their country were honored across America and throughout Eastern Madera County on Memorial Day, May 30, including Oakhill Cemetery in Oakhurst.
Gordon Kamai of Christ Church-Anglican presided over a service Monday morning in the Little Church on the Hill in the cemetery.
After the service, VFW Post 8743 and the Marine Corps League Griswold Mountain Detachment held a military tribute ceremony outside the church that included the presentation of colors, a gun salute, and the playing of taps.
Forty large American flags graced the cemetery driveway. This is a treasured tradition by Mountain Area residents. The flags are from the caskets of service men and women that have been donated by family members.
