Steven Madosky, one of the latest hires at Oakhurst Station 12 as a fire protection engineer, has returned to the Mountain Area - which he calls his second home.
After his family moved to Coarsegold from Riverside when he turned 18, Madosky, 31, spent eight years as a seasonal firefighter in the Mountain Area, serving six years in Bass Lake and two in Ahwahnee.
Though he returned ‘home’ to Riverside as a permanent engineer last year, Madosky said he was happy to be transferred to the Oakhurst station this February.
“I fell in love with this place,” Madosky said. “It’s an awesome area. I feel great being able to serve such an amazing community and everyone here.”
Madosky said his desire to help others is why he’s always wanted to be a firefighter.
“The adventure this gives, the feeling that you’re helping others and giving back to the community, it’s just great,” Madosky said.
Madosky said some of his greatest memories as a firefighter were when his parents pinned his badges after graduating from the engineering and firefighter academies.
“The long road they suffered through, with all they did to help me, really brought it all together,” Madosky said with a smile.
Madosky lives in North Fork with his wife Shawna and 2-month-old daughter Jaycee.
