Fresno man arraigned for marijuana operation

Madera County District Attorney David A. Linn announced that on May 4, his office, the Madera County Sheriff’s Department, and the California Highway Patrol participated in a joint operation in which Soukthavy Phiachantharath, 46, of Fresno, was arrested for growing marijuana on the east side of Highway 41 in the Coarsegold area.

Linn announced that his office charged Phiachantharath with two felony counts with a special allegation that resulted from the defendant being armed with a firearm.

Phiachantharath was arraigned today in Department 21 of the Madera Superior Court before the Honorable Judge David Minier. The case has been set for a preliminary hearing on May 20.

Bail remained at $500,000.

“My office is taking extremely aggressive action against marijuana grows,” Linn said. “This case involves the third Eastern Madera County property raided within the past 10 days. No one is going to come into our county and illegally grow marijuana for distribution or sale. This criminal element will not be allowed to start or continue any growing activities in our county.”
