The Sierra National Forest, Bass Lake Ranger District has 1-year-old bare root Ponderosa Pine seedlings available to Mountain Area residents.
“Community members wishing to adopt seedlings may obtain five or more by visiting the Bass Lake office at 57003 Road 225 in North Fork,” said Mike Nolan of the district. “The office is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.”
Contract and Forest Service crews have been working hard during March and April, planting approximately trees on 120 acres claimed by the recent Carsten, Courtney, and French Fires. As many as 37,000 trees will be planted in the district during this period.
“The new trees will accelerate the reforestation process on the national forest and establish new plant communities that stabilize the soil and provide biodiversity, ultimately protecting the watershed,” Nolan said. “By extending this seedling planting program across property boundaries, we are assured the proper seed stock is planted in the area forests.”
