Oakhurst woman allegedly DUI

According to the California Highway Patrol, an Oakhurst woman was allegedly drunk behind the wheel of a Chevrolet sedan when she drove into the southbound lane of Road 274 near the Bass Lake Courthouse around 4:45 p.m., April 18, and slammed head on into another vehicle before careening into a tree.

The silver 2009 Chevrolet Impala of Jaquel Adams, 46, smelled heavily of alcohol when California Highway Patrol officers responded to the wreck, investigating officer Steve Dominici said. Officers found beer cans strewn on the ground near the vehicle, he added.

An infant’s stroller was also thrown from the vehicle after the collision, which caused the car to spin out of control and skid about 80 feet into a nearby tree. Adams was the sole person in the car, Dominici said, with no child present.

Adams was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center of Fresno with major injuries, and placed under arrest for DUI, Dominici said.

Mary Dolan, 40, from Chula Vista was driving the white 2016 Subaru sedan that Adams crashed into, Dominici said. One of her passengers, Alice Cunanan, 57 of Chula Vista, complained of pain and was also transported to CRMC, but by ground ambulance. Dolan and another passenger, Cynthia Madiong, 51 of Chula Vista, were not injured.

Road 274, between the intersections of Road 222 and Road 331 was closed for about an hour as officers investigated the crash.

Both vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.
