Tennis team off to 3-0 start

The Yosemite High boys tennis team extended its North Sequoia League league record to 3-0 after beating Sierra 8-1 March 1. It’s a big turnaround for a team that went 0-4 before the start of league play.

Every player on the team beat their Sierra opponent - three of them not giving up a single set. Yosemite’s No. 1, 4, and 6 players, Steven Standerfer, Ian Pincus and David O’Brien, respectively, won their matches 6-0, 6-0.

The additional three wins came from the Badger’s No. 2 player Burke Wardle (6-1, 6-4), No. 3 Alex Williams (6-0, 6-3), and No. 5 Cannon Eames (6-1, 6-1).

Yosemite’s doubles teams of Andrew Volpetti - Nay Iwin, and Williams - Pincus won their matches 8-3 and 8-5.

The only loss of the day was doubles team of Cameron Hart and Jack Rice who were defeated 8-5.
