A boil water order for North Fork’s Maintenance District 8A was lifted over the weekend as tests came back negative for bacteria, following the earlier discoveries of E. Coli and Coliform.
On Wednesday, March 16, several businesses on the water system, including La Cabana and Slim’s Koffee Shak, closed temporarily as staff from the county environmental health investigated the presence of bacteria.
A boil order was then put into effect for using water to cook or drink, and any residents on the system’s some 70 connections were advised not to bathe in it as well.
Staff put chlorine into the system to clear out the issues, and flushed the system as they performed tests along the way. On Saturday, March 19, those tests showed no presence of bacteria and all businesses and residents were notified about the positive development. The boil order was lifted at that time.
