With about 50 members representing the O’Neals-Minarets FFA Chapter, this was the largest number of competitors Minarets has ever fielded. From taking a clean sweep in FFA Advanced Round Robin to winning multiple FFA Market Animal Champions, it’s safe to say Minarets was a dominating factor at this year’s fair.
At the Madera Fair Horse Show, 10 Minarets FFA members competed, all looking to take home awards.
Bailey Samper won Outstanding FFA English Horse Exhibitor and Chloe Ferguson won Outstanding FFA Gymkhana and Western Exhibitor. Madison Pearson won FFA Advanced Horse Showmanship and Overall Outstanding FFA Horse Exhibitor.
In the area of Small Animal competition, first time exhibitor Jonah Baird won Reserve Champion Fryer, Reserve Grand Market Rabbit, and Outstanding FirstTime Exhibitor. Another Minarets FFA member, Chris Bowe, won Champion Waterfowl with his Mallard Duck.
In the Swine Show, Madysin Buyer won FFA Champion Hampshire Hog and FFA Champion Market Hog along with Jordyn Samper winning FFA Champion Crossbred Market Hog. Shyann Mattes won FFA Advanced Showmanship and Outstanding FFA Swine Exhibitor.
Minarets was also a formidable competitor in the Cattle Show. Samantha Wagg won FFA Champion Market Steer and Reserve Grand Overall Market Steer. She also won Champion Commercial Heifer with Jordan Miles winning Reserve.
Another Minarets FFA Member, Robert Mattes, won Reserve Registered Heifer and Jessie Hutchens won Novice and Intermediate Beef Showmanship. Wagg also won Outstanding FFA Beef Exhibitor and secured her spot in Advanced Round Robin winning Advanced Beef Showmanship.
In the Goat Show Minarets Club Member, Chloe Ferguson, won FFA Champion Market Goat and Supreme Grand Champion Market Goat. Robert Mattes won Reserve FFA Champion Market Goat and Bred and Fed. Mason Ellis won Supreme Grand Champion Breeding Doe and FFA Advanced Goat Showmanship.
On the second day of the Livestock Show, Minarets again delivered an impressive performance.
Samper had both FFA Champion and FFA Reserve Champion Market Lambs and went on to win Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb.
Regan Fringer won Intermediate Sheep Showmanship and Shyann Mattes won Grand Champion Breeding Ewe, FFA Advanced Sheep Showmanship, and Outstanding FFA Sheep Exhibitor.
In Dairy Cattle and Dairy Goats, Andrew Rezendes won both FFA Advanced Dairy Cattle and Dairy Goat Showmanship and Michael Rezendes winning FFA Intermediate Dairy Cattle Showmanship.
The Minarets FFA Chapter’s highlight of the week was taking a clean sweep in FFA Advanced Round Robin and having three competitors in the FFA Intermediate Round Robin. The competitors in Round Robin have to qualify by winning showmanship of their respective species. Minarets was fortunate enough to have a Minarets FFA member representing every species, with Shyann Mattes winning overall.
This is combined with the Minarets FFA Livestock Judging Team winning the Livestock Judging contest. This team was composed of Michael Rezendes, Regan Fringer, and Dilan Basila.
The O’Neals-Minarets FFA Chapter was founded in 2008 and since then has been fielding competitive teams, competitive livestock, and competitive FFA members to represent them all across the state.
