Branches Books & Gifts owner Anne Driscoll is sending out a friendly challenge to area businesses and schools to enter an inaugural scarecrow contest.
“I love the idea of bringing our businesses, schools, and the town together to have a little fun, be creative and engage in a little healthy competition,” Driscoll said. “I’ve already had a great response from several stores, and restaurants. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with.”
Driscoll, a member of the Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce Business Committee, said the contest is a way to bring people together, feed a fierce love of all things fall, and decorate the town.
Those interested in participating are asked to begin designing their scarecrow(s) and get them out in front of their business as soon as possible.
All scarecrows should be labeled with a name tag, Scarecrow biography, name of participating establishment and the hashtag #OakhurstScarecrows. They should be family friendly – nothing too scary. Participants are in charge of maintaining their scarecrow for the entire month of October - rain, shine, or zombie apocalypse.
Trophies will be handed out for each category. Winners will be notifed Nov. 6. Contact Driscoll at (559) 641-2019 so that a photo can be taken and entry into the contest documented.
