A new year

My name is Lexey Jenkins. I am 12 years old and I am from Coarsegold 4-H. I joined 4-H last year because I thought it would be a good experience. My interests are school, art, science and animals. I am this year’s Coarsegold 4-H reporter. My job is to write articles every month about Coarsegold 4-H and submit them to the newspapers in our area.

I became the reporter at our annual year-end party. At this party we choose new officers for the next year. The 4-H year is from August to June. This year we have added the song and game team to the list of officer positions.

Here are the other officers for the year: president - Larissa Garcia, vice-president - Makayla Beckstead, secretary - Ava Gresham, treasurer - Eden Hussey, sergeant at arms - Robby Gresham and David Sparks, health and safety officers - Jordyn McCully and Kylie Colon, hostess - Erin McCully, and song and game team - Ellie Morris, Annalise Greene, and Emma Hussey.

4-H is a wonderful program because you can meet new people, make new friends and learn a lot of new things. In 4-H, I am doing community service, arts and crafts, outdoor sports and leadership. There are many different 4-H projects to try, such as swine (pig), sheep, goat, poultry, arts and crafts, leadership and many more. Each project meets about once a month and then we all meet every second Thursday of the month for our group meeting at the Coarsegold Community Center at 7 p.m. This is the meeting when everyone comes to talk about their projects.

The county winners for this year are Emma Hussey for her reporter book and vegetable gardening, Eden Hussey for her secretary book and she got second place for sheep and Lexey Jenkins (me) for her treasurer book.

4-H statement: Madera County 4-H youth program is a non-profit organization for youth who are nine years old or who have completed the third grade and up to age nineteen. All youth and adults in Madera County are invited to participate in the 4-H program, regardless of race, creed, religion, color, national origin, sex, and mental or physical handicap.
