July 10, 2015 12:16 PM

At 4:55 a.m., July 10, Carolyn J. Pinion, 60, of Wishon, was traveling northbound on Road 223, south of Road 420. According to the California Highway Patrol, she was traveling at approximately 55 mph, when she drove her 2005 Ford off the east road edge of Road 223, onto the east shoulder, and subsequently collided into a raised dirt embankment, went down an embankment before knocking down a tree, and coming to rest after colliding with a large boulder.

A passerby called emergency services, saying that Pinion was trapped insider her car, and that it had caught fire. When emergency services arrived, the car was fully engulfed, and they were able to extinguish the flames. Pinion was freed from the driver’s seat, and was flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno for treatment. She sustained major injuries as a result of the collision, but did not appear burned.
