Elementary schools participate in Track Meet

More than 300 students from 10 schools participated in the Madera County Track Meet at Yosemite High School May 8.

The third through eights grade students participated in four age divisions - bantum, midget, youth, and intermediate, in nearly 90 events including hurdles, sprints, shot put, discus, long jump, triple jump, high jump, and distance races.

The participating elementary schools were Coarsegold, Rivergold, Raymond, North Fork, Wasuma, Sping Valley, and Oakhurst, along with Oak Creek Intermediate School, Mountain Home School, and Martin Luther King Middle School from Madera.

The top three finishers in each event qualify for the May 16, five-county Valley School Championships at Buchanan High School in Clovis. The top five finishers at the meet receive medals.

The event was organized and hosted by Rivergold Elementary School.

Walker Vaughn, Yosemite High track coach, and members of his team assisted in running the event, and serving as time keepers.

“Without the support of Coach Vaughn and his team members, it would be close to impossible to manage such a large event,” said Bob Rose, Rivergold Elementary School principal.
