School district special election

Madera County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Rebbeca Martinez has announced that Vote by Mail Ballots for the June 2, Bass Lake Joint Union School District Special Election will be mailed beginning May 4.

When voting by mail, follow the instructions provided with your ballot. Voters must sign the blue identification envelope where indicated, and affix proper postage if returning the ballot by mail.

Voted ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day and received within three days of the election to be considered timely.

For persons wishing to vote by mail at the June 2, 2015 Bass Lake Joint Union School District Special Election, ballots will be issued between May 4, 2015 and May 26, 2015.

Ballots will automatically be mailed to those voters who have “Permanent Vote by Mail Status” on May 4th. No further application is required. If you do not have permanent vote by mail status, but wish to vote by mail, you may apply in the following ways:

 Online: download application and submit by mail.

 In Person: at the County Clerk’s office; located at 200 W. 4th Street, Madera.

Master gardener workshop

The Madera County Master Gardeners will host a Garden Advice Clinic, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, May 9, at Western Sierra Nursery in Oakhurst. Come with your gardening and landscaping questions.

Museum month

May is museum month. All area museums and historic sites will be offering something special. Music in the Meadow will take place at the Coarsegold Museum on Saturday, May 30. Great food, beverages, and desserts will be available while you enjoy two bands playing continuous music. A silent auction will also be held, and a taste of the offerings from Fresno Flats will keep you busy. You must bring your own chair or blanket. Tickets are available at the museum, or by calling (559) 642-4448.

Special guests at YLP church

Yosemite Lakes Community Church will host special guests Jack Hannah of the Sons of the San Joaquin, and world famous rodeo clown Wilbur Plaugher, 93, during the church’s 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services, Sunday, May 3.

Roadside Litter Cleanup Rescheduled

The semi-annual Community Roadside Litter Cleanup Day set for Saturday, April 25, was rescheduled for May 2, due to rain.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon and volunteers can still pick up trash bags and barrow equipment from the following locations: Coarsegold, on the corner or Road 415 and Highway 41 near the Teepee (559-760-1058); North Fork, at the North Fork Post Office (559-877-2361); Oakhurst/Ahwahnee, at the Oakhurst Library (559-907-3296).
